why pay microsoft?

Before I start this rant I would just like to point out, I actually hate game developers more then I hate microsoft, because it is there choice to take the easy option of using microsofts software and microsoft never forced anyone to build with direct x 10

Why do I have to pay microsoft money just so i can play my games, on the platform I prefer? It's bad enough that the world is taught there software as the be all and end all of solutions, but to be charged for the privilege, what the fuck.
It costs a home user (around)£80 for a copy of windows XP that works (home is just a joke lets face it) and it comes with...well....NOTHING. When you get it you have to perform a lot of updates because they can't release copies as fast as they (need to) fix bugs, and the amount of work you have to do to remove microsofts control over your computer (see image below). Yes I know that this hardware/software may not be tested and corrupted by microsoft....however thats because it works unlike the shit you want me to use....where is that option?

so ok microsoft, I've been using your software for ... too long, I mean I remember windows 3.1 which you loaded from the powerful DOS ... now you want me on vista just to play the new games? an operating system who's new look is stolen from an operating system that i know to be more powerful, just due to the fact that you can code to a lower level on it. well guess what...not everyone likes it, in fact the people you loose the sales to, HATE THAT LOOK.

Everyone that i know with ability to use computers, use windows XP because it's convenient, not because we want to. in fact most of us would rather be fraging our foes from a linux box, but that takes time to learn, and when you have a social life...you don't have the time to learn how to program your operating system to broadcast your web cam to your friends.

ok the main reason i began to rant about this was because of the DIRECTX10 issue of originally being vista only, and I know there is a version of it for XP now, but why should I have to confirm that I'm genuine Windows to download it? why can't I simply pay a one of fee of say £10 for directX10 so I can play the games that i've just spent half a weeks dole on (new releases costing from around £20~40) come...it's bad enough that to struggle through the games you have to pay half a grand for a machine, but to add from £50 for home, which is going to be limited like no-bodies business....well microsofts business lol....just to play them...why should i pay? why shouldn't I spend my time getting illegal copies of ultimate (over £300) so that I can set up ALL my computers on the same system, without having to pay you just so I can have a home network

ok so this has just been an attack on microsoft, however it is the game producers who use there software which started the rant. But still, the fact that I can either build a computer to add to my network for either :
cost of parts £500 (overclockers have gaming systems for less, but less won't play dx10 games)
cost of window £50 (microsoft windows xp home sp2)
cost of office £60 (microsoft office 2007)
so thats £600, with a restricted OS and one UGLY office suite (just to keep up to date)
or i can spend:
cost of parts £500
Operating system: free - please donate
Office suit : free - please donate

guess which one I'm tempted to go for from now on?

as soon as I've got my second machine running (hopefully just new power supply) guess which one I'll be heading to?
get Linux Ubuntu working as a desktop machine (net chatting etc) then I'll be looking into setting up VM with higher resource usage.

Is it still illegal to run unpaid for software just to run paid for software?
